Northern TechValley @ BKE launched as Penang’s new high-tech hub
The launch of Northern TechValley@BKE marks a transformative step in Penang’s industrial landscape. Officially unveiled today, this 176-acre industrial park aims to strengthen Penang’s reputation as a hub for high-tech manufacturing and innovation. The project, developed by Suling Hill Development—a joint venture between AME Elite Consortium Berhad and Majestic Gen—has a projected gross development value (GDV) of RM1.3 billion. During the launch at The Light Hotel, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised the project’s vision, describing it as a “milestone in Penang’s industrial journey” and an essential step towards establishing the state as a future-forward center for high-tech excellence.
Northern TechValley@BKE is designed to support a wide range of high-value industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical technology, and research and development in advanced technologies. The project aligns closely with Penang’s SEED (Strategy for Economic Ecosystem Development) initiative, which is focused on elevating high-value manufacturing sectors such as electronics, semiconductors, and medical technology. This alignment positions the park to not only attract top-tier industries but also reinforces Penang’s standing as a critical economic powerhouse in Malaysia. For more than 50 years, Penang has led Malaysia’s industrial landscape, attracting significant foreign direct investment (FDI) and fostering a highly skilled workforce.
In addition to its industrial capacities, Northern TechValley@BKE is designed as a sustainable, integrated ecosystem, emphasizing a balance between economic growth and environmental responsibility. The park’s layout includes an Industrial Garden Landscape Concept, complemented by aspirations for GreenRE certification, demonstrating a commitment to eco-friendly growth. The development plans also feature lifestyle amenities, recreational spaces, and employee accommodations, all contributing to a balanced environment that benefits both businesses and their workforces. This concept aligns with Penang2030’s vision of harmonizing economic progress with environmental stewardship.
Construction is already underway, with earthworks beginning in August 2024, and building construction scheduled to start in early 2025. The full development is projected for completion by 2029, reflecting both investor confidence and a commitment to timely, sustainable industrial growth. As Northern TechValley@BKE progresses, it signals a promising new era in Penang’s journey as an industrial leader, bringing together advanced technologies, a skilled workforce, and eco-friendly practices to bolster Penang’s role on the global stage.
