Klippa as your Welcoming Friend

Derived from a Swedish word that encompasses both ‘rock’ and ‘friend’, Klippa is more than just a retail destination; it embodies the spirit of a welcoming friend, reflecting the brand’s vision of building meaningful connections. As new families settle into their homes, students embark on their educational journeys, and professionals build their careers within the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Klippa is committed to tailoring experiences for everyone in the community and beyond, including Penangites, and neighbouring states.

Klippa’s goal is to create fun, exciting, and convenient experiences on every visit. The centre offers a variety of snacking options, cosy hangout spots, and budget-friendly meal deals for students and working professionals at tenants like Kejap Food, XiXiang Kaya Kopitiam, Zus Coffee, and more. Klippa’s exciting F&B drive-thru concept caters to the convenience of busy professionals and families with drive-thru lunch options and effortless access to well-known food brands like Kenny Rogers Roasters, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, A&W, McDonald’s, KFC, and many others.

Moreover, the centre houses a full-fledged supermarket, TMG Plus, known for its extensive selection of fresh groceries and dry goods, all priced affordably to meet the diverse needs of every shopper.

To enhance the experience for Klippa’s friends or ‘kawan-kawan’ from across North Malaysia, the centre strives to enhance their visits to IKEA Batu Kawan, ensuring that visitors can make the most of their day out.

Natasha Aziz, Head of Brand Experience & Communications of Ikano Centres said, “Klippa envisions itself to be more than just as shopping centre, we have the ambition for Klippa to become the hub of the growing Batu Kawan township. We first opened Klippa in 2019 with only 80,000 sq ft of gross leasable area (GLA). Since then we have expanded to 675,000 sq ft with 40 tenants and a healthy occupancy rate of 98%. We remain committed to growing together with our Batu Kawan communities, to introduce new offers that are relevant to our customers’ needs. Our end goal is to create a retail-anchored meeting destination where our visitors can shop, dine, connect, socialise and celebrate the uniqueness of our location.”

Exciting Updates at Klippa

Looking ahead to 2024, Klippa will welcome two significant additions to its retail line up. The first is a petrol station operated by Caltex, which is set to open in the first quarter. In the second half of 2024, Klippa will also open mainland Penang’s first Decathlon store, making a healthy lifestyle more accessible for North Malaysians.

Weekly Mega-Deals

For the last quarter of 2023, Klippa will introduce exclusive promotions, and special offers that will make shopping experiences at the centre even more rewarding. Stay tuned for exciting weekday deals across our many tenants.

Penang is set to become the MedTech Hub of Asia due to the rise of its medical device exports.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Penang’s exports in medical devices make up about 65% on average of Malaysia’s total in the MedTech industry between 2017 and 2021.

“The state’s exports in professional, scientific, controlling equipment, apparatus have risen as well, according to InvestPenang.

“The upcoming Medi-City plan in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, showcases Penang’s unwavering dedication to pioneer advancements in the healthcare sector,” said Chow in his speech during the annual Penang Pharmacists Convention 2023 in Setia SPICE Convention Centre today.

The Penang Pharmacists Convention 2023 is a pilot programme, jointly organised by the Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society Penang Area Committee (MPS), the Young Pharmacists’ Chapter Penang Area Committee (YPC) and the Malaysian Community Pharmacy Guild Northern Branch (MCPG).

As the largest pharmacists’ convention in northern Malaysia, the theme of this year’s convention is ‘Advancements in Pharmacy Practice’.

Chow said he was proud to officiate the convention whereby the participants could use the platform to exchange ideas on the future of pharmacy.

“We commemorate World Pharmacist Day, an occasion that resonates with pharmacists across the globe. It serves as a reminder of the vital roles the pharmacists play in our healthcare systems,” he added.

Chow was also proud of Universiti Sains Malaysia’s (USM) commitment to pharmaceutical research and education.

Malaysian Pharmacist Society deputy president Dr Nour Hanah Othman encouraged pharmacists to actively engage in shaping the future of pharmacy practice.

“The event marked a significant step towards a brighter and advanced future for the pharmacy profession,” she said.

Additional packages for affordable homes are optional and not a must

Housing developers cannot force buyers to take up renovation packages, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow was responding to a reporter’s question regarding certain developers allegedly hiking up the price of low-cost housing in the state through backdoor practices.

He emphasised that additional packages should remain optional and must not be a prerequisite for buyers of affordable homes.

When the government establishes the price for affordable housing units, he said that price is binding on the developers.

Acknowledging that low-cost housing units are heavily subsidised and priced way below construction costs, Chow noted that some developers took it upon themselves to provide renovations.

“Sometimes if the cost of a car park is included, it will exceed the selling price of RM72,000. It may go over RM100,000 when renovation packages are factored in.

“But it should be optional and not a condition for the developer to accept or not to accept that successful applicant from signing a purchase agreement.

“The actual cost for an LMC (low medium-cost) unit is already more than RM150,000. It is heavily subsidised.

“Any additional package, like renovation work to enhance the bathroom, kitchen or furniture, should be the subject of a separate agreement between the buyer and the developer.

“From time to time, we receive complaints, but it should be mutual agreement between a willing buyer and seller. Buyers can choose to add on any item, or undertake their own renovation,” Chow stressed.
