The Penang government has initiated the pre-qualification process for the Bayan Lepas Light Rail Transit’s Request for Proposal exercise.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said interested corporations that are shortlisted following the pre-qualification process would be invited to participate in the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Bayan Lepas LRT scheme which would be called later.

Those interested can check out Penang Infrastructure Corporation’s website at https://tender.penanginfra.com/home to register their interest.

“The pre-qualification process starts from July 25 to Aug 24. The companies can request access from Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) to download the pre-qualification process documents.

“The document fee (non-refundable) is RM2,000 and is to be paid to PIC. They can download the documents from July 25 to Aug 14.

“Online registration starts from July 21 to Aug 8.

“The deadline for the submission of documents for the pre-qualification process is at noon, Aug 24. The assessment process will commence after the closing date and is expected to take place from Aug 25 to Sept 8,” Chow told a media conference in Komtar today.

Chow said the Penang government is committed to realising the Bayan Lepas LRT project as it is an important component of the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).

The media conference also saw the launching of the newly rebranded PIC website, penanginfra.com

“Previously, it was the pgmasterplan.penang.gov.my website. This rebranding exercise has been worked on since last year.

“This newly rebranded website will be featuring information on PIC, Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan (PPSN) and components of PTMP, and the Penang South Islands (PSI),” he said.

State gov can do until request for proposal only. After 10+ years of encouraging new developers to build more condos and bring in investors, still can’t find a way to build LRT/MRT

Please delay the LRT project, it is not financially viable at this moment. People who want it built won’t ride on it and we only have a handful of Penang Forum member….LOL

Ahh yes, it’s people like you who oppose to making changes to the objectively flawed Penang transportation system whom I’m sure is making Penang a heaven to live in. Please, and this is a genuine please, refrain form making any comment and consider educating yourself with economics. Or heck, even common sense to help you see longer into the future than just 2 hours.

When a smaller island can hold the status of a first world country with much less resources, you know you done f it up.

Penang not ready for LRT, we do not have enough ridership, after taking into account population growth, to justify it. Can’t even keep the iconic Penang ferry afloat. another white elephant waiting to be bailed out…

You are comparing ferry, which transport people in and out of the island, to a transportation which is supposed to regulate the traffic internally?
Now I would agree with you on the upkeep vs demand for the LRT, your attitude of delaying the LRT or simply not build it doesn’t solve the root cause of the issue. What’s the alternative here? Widen the roads? Build more flyovers? Encouraging more cars on the island? How about parking spaces?

that why it started with MONORAIL if the population is low. Do check the monorail speed and capacity, start with this before embark LRT then MRT then KTM then Bullet train within Penang :) :) :)

Those that oppose probably have never experience the traffic during peak hour. Then expect the gov to do something about the traffic. Mass transport in the first place won’t be viable if you are looking for profit or break even for the short term. It’s about easing the traffic and reducing vehicle usage for the long term.

not talking about you guys, but generally speaking, there are a percentage that does. It stupid to think that, they want the state to progress but then objects them. I know some idea might impact the environment, but sacrifices has to be made for the better future.

Not sure if you are ignorant or refusing to admit, the general sentiment towards the LRT/MRT/monorail or whatever you like to call it, is quite negative in Penang. Just scroll up and look at the comment from Oh Nice.

    @Hush
It is indeed stupid that the people who complains about complaints, are making the complaints themselves. The hypocrisy stems so much deeper than just enabling trains, but let’s stick to 1 topic at a time for the short sighted people.
Don’t worry about the environment, the way things are, Penang is doing fine destroying it slowly with all the cars on the road.
