New Chinese school to be built in Batu Kawan
The federal government will build a new Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina or SJK(C) in Batu Kawan costing between RM8mil and RM10mil.
Deputy Education Minister Teo Nie Ching said the school, to be built on a 2.43ha plot provided by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), is expected to be ready in 2021.
She said they would either provide a new operating licence for the school or relocate SJK(C) Kuang Yu in Kuala Muda to the site.
She said there would be 24 classrooms, with 35 pupils in each class.
“There is already a Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) and a Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK),” she told reporters at the PDC office in Bandar Cassia after a site visit on Sunday.
Teo said upon completion, the new school could take in 840 pupils.
“The site is suitable for a new school as there will be a big space for the pupils to carry out their activities,” she said.
Present were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, PDC deputy general manager II Mohd Bazid Abd Kahar, Penang Education Department director Jamil Mohamed, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, Chinese and Mission Schools Affairs Coordinating Committee secretary Sim Phoi Yong and its committee members.
Also present were SJK(C) Kuang Yu headmistress Lee Kha Luang, school board of directors chairman Bu Theng Uu and its committee.
In his speech, Chow said the state government and the PDC would assist the ministry in building the school.

Why not building school on Penang island ? Penang lands only meant for developers ?
Simple. Because there is zero none tak ada bo mou meiyou Chinese school in Batu Kawan. Such a whiner. Keng Koon is in Simpang Ampat.
@Penanglang
Mind explaining why must build on island? Isn’t the school on island still insufficient? Why kick a fuss while the number of school on island is more than mainland but the overall population of mainland is greater than island? Imagine due to lack of Chinese school on mainland, some students from Simpang Ampat, Batu Kawan, Jawi or Nibong Tebal need travel to BM or BW for education?
I don’t see how your point is to get credit here..Please enlighten us..
Does anyone know the exact location of the proposef school?
Good news, this can cater not for the chinese but also other races. release traffic congestion at tambun with SJKC Keng Koon right in the middle of it.
We want Chung Ling Batu Kawan for primary and secondary as big as SMK + SRK Batu Kawan School Complex.
This can also bring back all mainland people that choose to work and stay in the island because they wanted their children to go to chinese school in the island.
Thank you CKY
Do you mind to share any news regarding to have Chung Ling in Batu Kawan?
what great precious news is this,knowing that it was so damn hard to beg for a chinese school in the past… also, it is great that they planned it so early on in anticipation of the population boom in Batu Kawan..
Hope not built on sinking land as most land around sinking.
@chandran
which part of Batu Kawan is sinking ? mind to share ? else it is just fake news….
@Oh nice
A good example is Design village. You can check out their outdoor car park. It is sinking.
so is the car park sinking or the land sinking ?
Car park built on land. So in short, both are sinking. If you have time, go and visit Design Village and see it for yourself.
Technically, that is settlement instead of sinking.
Building support by piling, it rigid, settlement resists by piles.
Road has no pile, it will slowly settle until truly firm.
No harm to the building etc, just regular maintenance needed.
As simple as that.
