Malaysia’s biggest outlet mall, Design Village, will open its doors from November to offer a selection of items at lowered prices.

The outlet mall, located within the newly-developed township of Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan, is the first in the northern region.

Built on a 24-acre tropical garden, the mall will have popular brands from fashion to home appliances all at markdown prices.

Sports brand Adidas will open its biggest outlet store in Malaysia at this mall to offer a variety of footwear and attire at lowered prices.

There will also be brands new to the region such as the Travel For All Outlet store that will have luggage, travel accessories and winter wear, also at markdown prices.

Shoe stores Aldo and Bata will also be opening their first outlet stores at this mall.

Leather products will also be sold at a steal with the opening of the first Leather Made Outlet store that sells bags and leather goods at lowered prices.

Design Village, developed by PE Land Group, is the first outlet mall in the northern region and is easily accessible via the North South Highway and the Sultan Abdul Halim Bridge.

    I think outlets concept is different from PTS and PWC, PTS and PWC might be for very fashionable and high end shops while Outlets are meant for cheap and discounted stuff..

    Actually I refer to @FreshwaterBay comment “No project on island will ever be successful”. That’s why 1st thing I thing came out from my mind were PTS and PWC.

    The success part will be Ikea/Ikano. For the outlets, it will be just “so so” as branded outlet stores are never an attraction in Msia because the stuff there are not really that cheap (due to tax). It’s cheaper if you buy online from US. If you’re not after “cheap”, then might as well buy it from boutique stores in KL/PG. Having said that, the success of Ikea/Ikano would be enough to bring in the crowd. So overall, yes, batu kawan will become much livelier.

    @kanina
    I see..So even it’s outlet price, it’s still taxable for the items that sell there..If like this then maybe the price gap will not be too big..

    Why I took HK one as comparison because each time my Penang colleagues / Singapore colleagues came HK for short visit / holiday, one of the destination is the outlet stores near to Airport..I have been there several times, it’s really cheaper though not so fashionable..

    So, this came to my mind that since people from Msia still particularly making a trip down there to buy, if we Penang has our own outlet store, like this one very giant size one..should be pretty attractive and helpful to many mid income earners..

    Anyway, I also hope it successful and more brands to come along with discounted and offer prices..

    @edisongan

    Yes, it’s cheap in hong kong because its a freeport, everything is tax free except for cars & petrol. In msia, we are still living in the stone age, everything is still heavily taxed.
