Tanjong Prima-Island Plaza overhead bridge enhances pedestrian safety and convenience
Pedestrians from all walks of life, including tourists, foreign workers, office-goers, senior citizens, and youngsters, have begun utilising the recently constructed Tanjong Prima-Island Plaza overhead bridge in Tanjong Bungah.
The overhead bridge connects Fettes Road and the Seri Tanjung Pinang Road, situated opposite the Prima Tanjong Business Centre. It now provides safety and convenience in the area.
The 38-meter-high overhead bridge boasts a modern structure that is designed to be accessible to the disabled and elderly individuals, with lifts on both sides.
State Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the Tanjong Prima-Island Plaza overhead bridge had earlier announced that the bridge, equipped with lifts on both sides, would make it inclusive and user-friendly.
The total cost for the construction of this overhead bridge amounted to slightly over RM2 million.
Zairil explained that the bridge’s construction has not only improved road safety but also reduced the pedestrian traffic signal phasing. Consequently, this has contributed to a more efficient traffic light cycle for vehicles, thereby alleviating traffic congestion in this bustling area.

what an eyesore…..the authority is clueless about urban design
Well done. Pedestrian safety more importance than pleasing to the eye.
Good job!!!
90% of time under utilised, waste of tax payer money..
Good Job
@Oh nice
most the time i pass there i can see ppl are using it, i can say is one of the bridge that the most ppl using
@Oh nice
Why do you say this is underutilized? This is built for people who prioritize safety as their top concern, including the elderly and toddlers, and not for those who are stubborn.
Some people are not following traffic lights, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need it
@penanglang
Actually, I kind of agree with @Oh nice on the portion of clueless design. After they built this, how about the other 3 sides where pedestrians also wish to cross to the other sides. I believe they have also encountered the same problem.
I think the allocated money should be spent on more useful things like how to control the traffic flow better or set up zebra crossing. With utilizing the zebra crossing and well-planned traffic stoplight, it can stop all sides to allow all sides of people to cross it at the same time for few minutes.
If we compare to Singapore, their overhead bridge is built where no traffic lights are installed and not on the traffic light intersection.
This bridge definitely will not be underutilized, but is it the best option?
@Oh nice
Talking about utilized, people can walk, so why build MRT then? Who still sit bus nowadays? only bangla ride so as well don’t, make road jam.
Also, don’t use car, save petrol, not even motorbikes, everyone should cycling.
I told my wife, “they are not complete yet, see the big orange steel for construction support, will be taken off at the end”
@PG_HoChiakLeh
the other 3 sides? Think from Island88 business perspective then you will know the answer. Routing traffic from PTBC side give the highest ROI to Island88. Safety is only sugar coating.
@PG_HoChiakLeh
You need to actually try crossing the road as pedestrian to understand all 4 sides traffic. The main road Jln Tg.Tokong beside PTBC have 6 lanes and another side have 4 lanes near to Island88, so in total will be 10 lanes for pedestrian to cross. When traffic light at Jln Tg.Tokong going straight turn green, it is bidirectional flow then follow by bidirectional for vehicle to turn right, in contrast to Jalan Fettes and Jln Seri Tg.Pinang side which is single direction traffic with vehicle go straight and turn right simultaneously and will be easier for pedestrian to cross during red light. Go ahead and try and feedback again.
@PG_HoChiakLeh
Now, tell me how many volumes of pedestrians we have here? we have more car than people, you expect Shibuya crossing kind of thing happening? lol
Sometime the perspective is not about, spend so much for so little pedestrians.
It’s actually, spend so much so that take ganggu traffic, because the traffic way more economically important than few people crossing.
@Gemini
Great details you wrote there. Ya, that’s why the current flow is not feasible unless they have to make some switch to it.
And to ‘Islander’ point, YES, i was expecting Shibuya kind of type! hhaha. But its true, you got a good point, it is undeniable that the volume is still not there.
Speaking of traffic, the area there is getting worsen since the development around Mt.Erskine, and not to mention the upcoming Andaman Island when its complete. Hopefully the LRT plan can start by end of this year…
