Penang gets allocation of RM200mil to build PPR units
Penang has received a RM200mil allocation to build about 1,000 more People’s Housing Project (PPR) units, the highest ever amount ever for the purpose.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation will be divided equally between two projects that would double the number of PPR units in the state.
“This is the largest PPR project allocation ever awarded to Penang.
“The state has identified five plots of land for the projects on the island and mainland.
“Once completed, they would double Penang’s existing 999 units of PPR,” he announced during a work visit to the Town Hall in Jalan Padang Kota Lama on Friday (June 23).
He said technical teams will meet to discuss details of the developments, expected in the North-East and North Seberang Prai districts.
In his speech, Nga also announced a RM9.62mil allocation for the Malaysia Home Maintenance Fund (TPPM) and Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP) in Penang this year.
“A total of RM6.76mil is approved for 22 projects under TPPM and RM2.86 mil for seven projects under PPP.
“This provision is intended to help building repair and maintenance including upgrading of roofs, water tanks and elevators that will be implemented by Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Prai City Council (MBPP) and the state Housing Board,” he said.
Also present were ministry secretary-general Datuk M Noor Azman Taib, Penang housing, local government, town and country planning committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo and MBPP mayor Datuk A Rajendran.
