Local Government Ministry hopes to learn from Singapore’s HDB success
The success of Singapore’s Housing & Development Board (HDB) to provide public housing for 80 per cent of its citizens has motivated the Local Government Development Ministry to consult its experts as well as other foreign experts in its effort to build more affordable homes in Malaysia.
The ministry, in a statement, last week said: “The ministry will examine case studies for best practices on housing policies in other countries including neighbouring countries such as Singapore that have shown success in providing the public with affordable housing.
“This will allow the new National Housing Policy to take into account the various needs of the people according to their culture, customs, religions and scenarios of the multi-racial society in the country.
“We will also hold a knowledge-sharing session with housing experts from Singapore to discuss affordable housing management.
“This is to strengthen the country’s housing development strategy based on the six core values of Madani, namely kemampanan (sustainability), kesejahteraan (prosperity), dayacipta (innovation), hormat (respect), keyakinan (trust) and ihsan (compassion),” it said.
Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming had earlier said the Singaporean government had given its nod for HDB flat contractors to visit his ministry next month to share their knowledge on building affordable homes in Malaysia.

Ask your perumahan employee to learn how to accept call and speak without slamming down the phone. enforce government allocation of affordable homes to those in need, not let developer do upgrade package and basic package state unit profitable
@CY Chew
Want to afford a decent property? For our own sake, please find kangtao and work yourselves out of B40, M40 then you can pick the property you like. Kena from rocket gov affordable housing scheme once is bad experience enough, the Rise Collection price hardly appreciate, more like added liability for affordable home buyers. What to do, perumahan will just boast that their affordable home initiative has provided roof for these B40, M40 people.
Affordable housing is meant for people who is in needy, not people like you who is looking for Capital Appreciation. Thats the mentality of the most penang people. They don’t need the house, they needed a house that gives them the golden ticket (Flip Property)
The government has announced the fix/ceiling price for Affordable House and the price will not be appreciated. This is due for people who is in needy.
Not for people who is greedy for golden ticket like you.
Anyhow, the properties in Penang is already way more oversupplied than it should be.
I think you should write in to the Government. I heard the respond for most of the Complains in Penang is quite fast
Ok la, what you say is correct. Rich people can buy normal property to flip and get richer, poor people will just be thankful to get a roof and spend money to maintain the stagnant affordable property.
And yeah, Gov response for complaints is quite fast, fast in closing cases haha
Go for Zen and QuayWest, proven track record of good for own stay and investment
@wahlaneh
Their response fast is when say reply you “wait”. “I don’t know”. “Not my job, need ask developer”. Otherwise, if you ask them why new government allow cut queues and why apply 15years got no news, they will just close your phone. Now lagi pandai, straight say government allow developer to select the “state units buyer”. Government no longer allocate, is them who decide. So basically is just letting developer to have different package, and thats all. No citizen wellbeing in consideration at all. Shame on new government too
This one as usualy they will say tak tau. Semua pun tak tau. But in fact got any kangtao they sure have but for their own
Affordable house but high density and 1st time buy property mentality owners. Susah with them owners.
@MajorArches
Want luxury. Want bigger size. Want privacy. Want low density.
Want prime location. Want seaview. Want 2 or 3 carpark. Want affordable price like Kampung.
Better go back Kampung Village buy a land and buy yourself.
Do not ask for luxury, do not ask for bigger size. didn’t ask for privacy. not hoping for low density.
So what we should want? Fair and justice. If government can’t give that. Don’t bother giving out affordable homes and brag about them being so helpful to the country. Basically just backdoor cutqueues to earn side income.
Most importantly, just fire those perumahan useless cs. Since their existence is non-existence.
I mean since the government already say it out that the buyer name list will be decided by the developer. And developer making promotional packages to sell those “exclusive state units”. Please explain to me what is the point of having headcounts in perumahan? Buta gaji? Basically pointless to apply and register in Perumahan. Just make connection with developer’s sales agent. Free ticket to “exclusive state units”.
@CY_Chew
Work harder and earn more money buy a better house.
Nowadays affordable house really screw up as once OC majority rent out to collect rental monthly.
And those affordable house quality really bad. You may sell it & buy a better house.
@CY_Chew
This i surely agree with you
@Semuaboleh
For your info, i was not mentioning about what big and big.
I stated the fact that affordable is high density and the first time buyers mentality.
So many visits to Spore HDB by previous govts heads & civil servants but nothing achieved nor learnt. To them it is just another free trip to Spore at taxpayers expense. Not receptive to best practices of HDB.
You’re saying like it costs so much to go to Singapore. Anyone from Msia can go to S’pore and it doesnt seems to be an issue.
And, if the government is not doing anything, you’ll be saying do nothing. When they do something with small progression, people like you will judge. So? What would you suggest and what would you think it’s best to improve the housing in Malaysia?
Selling all the Low-Cost Houses @ RM72,500. With the average valuation of RM400k. Then you make a flip to make the Money? Or letting you to rent out for RM1000 with a monthly installment of RM400?
Since when there is a saying that all the allocation is by the Developer? Any references to share?

Record the phone conversation, collect evidence, and report to the police and MACC for corruption investigation. Complaint here is not going to help change anything.
