Mak Mandin Hawker Complex to be upgarded
The Mak Mandin Hawker Complex (public market) is set to undergo upgrading work starting June next year.
State Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the upgrade would provide a more conducive environment for both traders and visitors.
Jagdeep said Bagan Jermal assemblyman Soon Lip Chee had suggested to the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) in 2020 to upgrade the complex due to its condition as well as to relocate the traders nearby into the hawker complex.
“Following that, the MBSP conducted a census and obtained details concerning the implementation of the project.
“The MBSP had also appointed a consultant to carry out a detailed study and to prepare the design for this project.
“The consultant had then come up with the design and the cost estimation of the project is RM3.2 million,” Jagdeep said during his visit to the complex this morning.
Also joining him were Bagan parliamentary candidate Lim Guan Eng, state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh and Soon who is also the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman.
Jagdeep added that an engagement session with Soon and the traders was also held to present the proposed project.
“This upgrading work is also in line with the state government’s vision to be a smart and green state with the use of LED lights, rainwater harvesting system and the provision of recycling space.
“The tender for the Mak Mandin Hawker Complex is expected to be advertised in December.
“The upgrading work is expected to start in June and it will take around one and a half years to complete it.
“Upon its completion, the hawker complex will be able to house a total of 68 traders.
