Penang will soon have a new industrial park in Kepala Batas (north Seberang Perai district) to cater foreign investors’ interests in the state.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow told Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Katsuhiko Takahashi that the state has looked into industrial land issue after having attracted various foreign investments last year and the preceeding years.

Takahashi was paying a courtesy call on Chow in the latter’s office in Komtar yesterday.

“The Kepala Batas Industrial Park, which is estimated to be ready by the second half of this year to attract investors, is close to Kulim and it takes about a 20-minute drive from the Penang Bridge.

“This is the urgent measure taken to ensure sufficient land for the factories.

“We hope that Penang can remain the destination of choice for many investors, especially from Japan,  through this initiative.

“We will make further announcement when everything is ready,” he said.

They also discussed various topics, including the state’s tourism, Covid-19 situation, Japanese community, and other related matters.

Takahashi expressed his hopes that the annual Bon Odori festival would take place this year.

“It is an annual event, which will attract tourists to the state.

“We hope that it can be held, at least in a small-scale event, amid the pandemic,” he said.

Chow too hoped the festival would materialise this year, although it would be subject to the situation at that time.

Kepala Batas ? Near Kulim was mentioned, meaning Kulim Airport is forthcoming ?
Even though Penang Island is still very much convenient now, why must go to Kepala Batas ?
I would think say, Teluk Bahang is even a much better choice comparatively !

They are planing to have an even development throughout Penang , mainland and island , so i thinks thats a great move , Plus with the upcoming Kulim international airport planned its good penang have a backup plan up north , Further island is getting very much congested now days ,better to have industrial park in other districts as well ,spur growth throughout Pulau Pinang as a state. Helps to increase investment in SPU as well.

It is a great move having another industrial park in SPU. Teluk Bahang is definitely a bad idea as it is within the tourist belt and the road to there is narrow and winding. Besides this, it would affect the enviroment and may pollute the sea.

Kepala Batas / Bertam is surely a good location, vast land there, good population and housing schemes are growing there, connected well with plus highway….

it’s really a potential future industrial land, provided mainly focus high criteria manufacturing and MNC..

SPU is the rice bowl of the state. Please leave it as food bank. The next century, the most wealthy country is the one who control most of the food supply. Last century was powerful weapon to control the world. This century that economy and money to control the world. Next century, food will be the most power weapon to control the world.

Kepala Batas is already surrounded by major industrial estates in Sg Petani , Kulim and Mak Mandin ( also in SPU) . Not much land left in Kepala Batas. Better use for green housing for local people and perhaps for institutions of higher learning or training colleges . Need green lung area for Seberang Perai. The spillover effects from nearby industrial estates already being felt in Kepala Batas. All growth areas are just within minutes of travel. A BIG NO to a huge hostel to house foreign workers in Kepala Batas. Foreign workers hostel should be built next to the existing industrial estates.
