More sports activities allowed in Penang from yesterday
Several outdoor sports activities in Penang will now be allowed since the state is under the Phase Two of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).
Jogging, exercise, swimming, solo kayaking, taichi, cycling, skateboarding, fishing, equestrian, archery, hiking, tennis/badminton (single) and golf are allowed from Aug 23, yesterday.
Outdoor and semi-outdoor sports centres including swimming pools can now reopen with a 60% capacity and 60% of workers. Indoor sports facilities must remain closed.
Everyone can take part in the allowed sports and recreation activities including those who are yet to be vaccinated, but with strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP).
However, state youth and sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said those who want to dine-in at cafes or restaurants within the premises of sports activities must be fully vaccinated.
He said the Penang Island City Council public swimming pool in Relau on the island will be open from 7am to 10am and 4pm to 9pm with a maximum of 30 people at any one time. Bookings can be done by calling 012-5105997.
Seberang Prai City Council’s swimming pool in Jalan Betek, Bukit Mertajam, will be open from 8am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm with a minimum of 60 people at any one time.

He added that the use of swimming pools in hotels will come under the jurisdiction of Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry while for strata buildings, decisions can be made by joint management bodies.
