RFP for 1st affordable housing project by LPNPP is expected to open in October
The first affordable housing development project (RMM) by Penang State Housing Board (LPNPP) near Bukit Gedung, Bayan Baru is currently in the process of preparing documents for open tender.
The matter was informed by State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo during a press conference here just now.
Jagdeep said, at this time, the land survey work has been completed and the Request for Proposal (RFP) by open tender is expected to be opened as early as this October for a period of one month.
The construction work is likely to be offered to eligible developers in December 2021.
“The affordable housing project at Bukit Gedung will be developed on a 7.6 -acre plot of land, offering a total of 253 low medium-cost units and 1,014 affordable housing units below the ceiling price of RM300,000.
“Various amenities and facilities including 21 units of 3-storey commercial units will be provided in this project,” said Jagdeep, who is also a Member of the Board of LPNPP.
According to Jagdeep, the development of the RMM is the first project among the 10 projects that have been identified to be developed by LPNPP itself in all five districts in Penang.
“The ten RMM development projects under LPNPP will cover a total of 20,912 units.
“The State Government will continue to build more affordable houses for the people of Penang and has targeted up to 220,000 units to be provided by 2030,” he added.
RFP? I thought the Penang State housing board is going to develop the project themselves? Looks like it’s going to have same issues with other affordable housing projects.
Teluk Bahang can build a lot more affordable houses with no land tussle.
