Workers’ quarters project in Juru cancelled
The proposed workers’ quarters project in Juru that was awarded by the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) to Westlite Dormitory (Penang-Juru) Sdn Bhd has been aborted.
Replying to a question by a journalist, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the project was called off after the company met with strong objections from the residents living nearby.
Chow was referring to the proposed five-block quarters project back in 2016.
He added that Seberang Perai has only one workers’ dormitory now.
“Currently, there is only one workers’ dormitory on the mainland that has been completed and progressively occupied,” he said.
It was reported that the workers’ dormitory on the mainland in Bukit Minyak, was managed by Westlite Dormitory (Bukit Minyak) Sdn Bhd.
The dormitory consists of 369 units.
