Pulau Jerejak world class development approved

pulau-jerejak2

Majilis Perbandaran Pulau Pinang (MBPP) has allowed the developer of buildings at Pulau Jerejak to demolish the buildings, paving the way for redevelopment of the island, reported The Star.

The developer Tropical Island Sdn Bhd has been given planning permission with conditions – namely to not encroach on the island’s forest reserve – to undertake the project, said mayor Yew Tung Seang.

“It’s still in early stages as there are number of conditions attached which would need to be carried out after the demolition of the structures are completed,” he said.

According to the initial plan, this development will see the demolition of existing hotel buildings for the construction of luxury hotels and residences in multiple phases:

  • Phase 1: 10-storey hotel with 350 rooms and a 4-storey clubhouse
  • Phase 3: Three blocks of 10-storey serviced residence with shop offices
  • Phase 4: Two blocks of 10-storey condominium and 4-storey villa
  • Phase 5: 10-storey serviced residence

It was previously reported that there were plans to permanently gazette hundreds of acres on the island into a forest reserve, but those plans have not materialized yet.

Pls do not built any apartments and houses there. Just develop the place to Theme park, restaurant and pubs. Maybe with small casino. The island itself should be only for entertainment. Only hotels should be there. Make it duty free island for booze.

Vision and Mission of Jerjak IR project for the future of Penang, to bring Penang status to much higher level in the international platform.

DO NOT end up having a mediocre development with mundane planning and design, if only restricted to local developers.

Jerjak Island is our last jewel of Penang to be well developed to enhance main Penang island!

Leave the island alone!, Let it become a wild life refuge and a well cared for natural heritage. if you have to build, build walkways all around the island and hiking trails, the island is home to many exotic species not found on the Penang Island anymore. Building hotels, casinos and such luxurious condos only cater to the few and the amount of waste that would have to be dealt with will destroy the pristine island eco system and the sea around it.

Totally agree on it. Penang dont have to be well known for that lame construction of casino. That’s such a disgusting idea.. Upgrade to to natural heritage and let all come forward to learn. We have enough luxury condos that’s flooding the island. Be like a civilised society where humane projects should be uphold.
