jalan-air-itam-to-jalan-thien-teikPlans to build a flyover to reduce traffic flowing from Jalan Ayer Itam towards Jalan Thean Tek in Penang are in the pipeline, said state Local Government Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

He added that details of the plan would be announced later.

“The flyover would probably be somewhere near Wisma Yatim Laki-Laki Islam,” he said during the completion ceremony for a road-widening project in Jalan Masjid Negeri recently.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the road-widening project would help reduce traffic congestion in the area by 20%.

“A reduction of 20% is considered massive as the maximum that can be reduced is 25%,” he said in his opening speech.

Lim added that the initiative was part of the state’s nine upgrading projects costing RM45.8mil.

Also present were Penang Island City Council engineering department deputy director Cheah Chin Kooi and Ayer Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.

This is a good initiative. It looks very useful, doesnt look too expensive, Penang can well afford it, unlike the tunnel that is way beyond our affordability, and probably doesn’t serve much purpose. We should do more of this kind of project, simple and cost effective solution. The state administration should send more of their people down to the streets to identify improvement projects, instead of wasting all your resources giving “ineffective” parking fines, which doesnt make MBPP any much richer, and doens’t solve traffic jams in the end either. Use more of your brains to work harder, instead of your mouth scolding your critics.

Penang driver would have less headache and more space if double parking is totally banned around school, banks etc
Hawkers should be position in specific eating places where it is healthier, safer and cleaner

At moment ,cars stopped outside hawkers blocking the roads like Macalister road and Dato Kramat road causing slowing of traffic and jams
