LRT up and running in 2030

New benchmark: (Front row from right) Chang, Lim, Lim’s wife Betty Chew and Liew viewing a scale model of an Eco World project at the group’s show gallery in Penang.

The light rail transit (LRT) project is expected to be completed in 2030.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said that all the LRT lines and routes should be ready by that year.

“The LRT project will pass through Batu Kawan, linking up the mainland and the island to ensure that Seberang Prai will not be neglected.

“This is what differentiates the Penang Transport Master Plan from previous plans to ease traffic congestion in Penang,” Lim said.

Lim was speaking at a press conference after witnessing Eco World chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah accepting the letter of award for a mixed development project on a 129.4ha site in Batu Kawan from Penang Development Corporation (PDC) general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar here yesterday.

Also present was Eco World chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin.

Lim said the state government would call for another request-for-proposal (RFP) exercise to develop a theme park next to the Eco World’s proposed mixed development project.

He said the state government was committed to turning Batu Kawan into the most modern satellite township in Malaysia.

On the Eco World mixed development project, Lim said about 60.7ha would be for the development of a golf course.

He added that the Eco World project known as Eco Marina would be a gated and guarded strata township scheme that would set a new benchmark for residential, lifestyle, and commercial developments in Penang.

2030-2015=15years.. lol.. please don’t give us all kind of fake hope. Is this bi-election gimmick? Actually I don’t mind Penang has slower development under PR, however please give us something more realistic!!

I agree that slower development has its own good as too fast moving is also quite struggling, everything is pro and con, there is always a price to pay for any fast development, step by step approach is a good manner for city development.

Most importantly, the road infrastructure need to be improved and traffic congestion need to be mitigated. Nevertheless, develop or not develop is separate matter, personally, i feel that PG is suitable for retiree and for those who seek for work life balance, my 2 cents.

Hello, read carefully pls, he said ALL the lines to be completed by 2030, it does not mean LRT only available by 2030. Like said, it can be phase by phase to be built in earlier date. Anyway, it is still at “talk-cock”-only per now, I do hope a more structured plan of news comes out.

If it could be faster would be better but still excellent and good news. As long as no interruption from Federal I think all will be well for the foreign investors. :)

miss the old Penang, Penang suppose to be like Bali or like Singapore?, like Bali we have more relax life, like Spore we have more stress life :-)
happy life should not be earn a lot money and then pay a lot money for living, Penang everything becomes more expensive!

Penang should be a tourist destination instead of like a mega city, pls slow it down, it is just an island, dun give it too much stress and constantly inject a lot of concrete into the land and becomes concrete jungle.
    a penangite voice :)
