Penang Sentral project to start this year, says NCIA
BUKIT MERTAJAM: The long-awaited Penang Sentral project is likely to start in the fourth quarter of this year, says the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA).
Its chief executive, Datuk Redza Rafiq said NCIA was looking at how to position the project, and work in line with the collaborative engagement model with all parties involved.
“We are now going through the land acquisition process with all the stakeholders. Rest assured that the project will start this year, most likely in the fourth quarter,” he added.
Redza said this in response to a question on the delayed project which has raised concerns among Penangites, with the ground breaking ceremony by former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, held in 2007.
He said the first phase of the project, which is the construction of the integrated transportation terminal, would take two years to complete, while the entire project is a 10-year initiative.
Penang Sentral, another highlight of the Northern Corridor Economic Region’s (NCER) undertakings, is a proposed integrated transport and logistics hub, which will integrate rail, ferry, monorail and land transport.
The integrated transport hub will be built on the site of the Butterworth ferry terminal, railway station and former bus terminal, covering an area of 557,418 square meters.
The proposed RM2 billion modern and comprehensive transport hub would be developed via a joint-venture between Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) and Pelaburan Hartanah Bumiputra Bhd.
The proposed hub will consist of two ferry, two monorail, four train and 50 bus platforms as well as 4,000 parking bays, with commercial and residential properties.
It has the capacity to accommodate some 200,000 passengers/users daily. – Bernama

Where is the place?BM?
Near to ferry terminal.
when i heard this development, my niece was 3, now my niece already 15 still heard the same old story. nothing has completed. need to pass on to my grandchildren already
They will have a lot of reasons to stay “Why” it delay…..
Where are the detailed plans? Is this going to be another thing that’s nice to look at but completely impractical for everyday commuters? I can’t make out a THING in that mock up above !! I just googled Chernobyl Disaster and the aerial pics are MORE DETAILED then that mock up . And what monorail?? Could they give us any LESS DETAIL?? These people just quietly build such a major project without public consultation/input and then it COLLAPSES . 10 years?? And public transport is supposed to just GRIND TO A HALT while they “slow motion” the project to hold the people ransom for the next 5 years until the next “Battle Royale For Penang”?? This could get very very messy unless the public pressures the release of much much more details and the setting up of a detailed road-map with penalties for the developer if certain phases are not completed on time. This involves the entire transport roadmap/infrastructure blueprint for the next 20 years ! Has the state government been consulted? Now that we have a halfway functioning bus terminal, with THE UNIMAGINABLE LUXURY OF TOILETS, after having to spend YEARS waiting for buses Under a Dingy FLYOVER like DRUG ADDICTS and buying express bus tickets from 3rd world wooden structures like miniature wooden illegal gambling bookie cubbie-holes, now the LONG LONG SUFFERING Butterworth commuter will have to put up with more endless construction with no end? Half the time the @$$%*& escalator up to the ferry is rosak, why don’t they upgrade something so basic and simple that will have so much impact first?? And focus on maintaining it? And the toilet at Penang Sentral now is under lit, overcrowded and claustrophobic too, while we’re on this topic.
@peter
Wtf can u summarize wat u want to express? I catch no ball la
PENANGITES DO NOT GET CAUGHT IN A TRAP AGAIN AND BE HELD RANSOM BY HALF COMPLETED PUBLIC FACILITIES!! Nobody remembers the express bus stand was ONCE UNDER THE FLYOVER for the cars boarding the ferry???! WHY EVERYONE ALWAYS SO SHORT MEMORY ONE?!!!? agrrrgh.
Another Shiok Sendiri Project? Empty Barrel Making lotsa noise.
Can’t really feel or see any difference compare to the current Ferry & Train station except this new project makes the area looks new. In terms of passenger, they still need to commute to that Terminal to take the train or ferry.
Its not like they are building a LRT from Butterworth, BM and Seberang Jaya to that TERMINAL area.
Waste of money…. SATU LAGI PROJECT SHIOK SENDIRI.
@peter
So? Wat the fly over has to do with the mega project delay? Very hard to understand u still. $&@@&”@/:!
@peter
well said peter. u’ve gotta use the penang sentral / ferry terminal for once to be able to understand what has been said.
Thought can get more details fropm “Penang Sentral” link above. Who know…is nothing! haiz….. disappointed….
