The upgrade of the federal road FT006, from Teluk Kumbar to the Penang International Airport (LTAPP), near here, which costs RM390 million, is expected to be completed this December.

Penang Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said the road would be made fully open to road-users early next year and was expected to increase the number of vehicles to more than 20,000.

“We hope that the three-kilometre four-lane expressway would lessen traffic congestion faced by the people of this state,” he said during a site visit to the project location here today.

He said, improvements which had been carried out since February 2014 showed good progress and everything ran according to schedule.

“The project is now 80 per cent completed and the remaining work will be completed in five or six months more,” he said.

According to Zainal Abidin, the progress included the transfer and reconstruction of community buildings such as a police station and a public hall to the nearby area.

He added, the expenditure of the project was high due to the costly price of land in the state as well as compensation payments to landowners.

    @Jon

    You need to know that, why BN could deliver it’s because the federal government is also BN that time. The state government could receive funds from the federal government easily because of the same party.

    In Penang, DAP is the state government while the federal government is BN. Do you think that it’s easy to get funds from the federal government? It’s a different party, why would BN bother to let their opponents grow and deliver better results than they could. Think logically.

    When you said nothing materialized, you’re wrong. DAP has been improving the infrastructure since they chair Penang as the state government. For example, completion of 2nd Penang bridge as well as the traffic enhancement in Southern region like Bayan Lepas & Teluk Kumbar, connection between Paya Terubong, Balik Pulau, Bukit Jambul, and so on.

    …. Please ring in your head the separation between government… .and party….

    it is GOVERNMENT’s JOB to upgrade Malaysia’s infrastructure as a whole. The funds come from them. Which comes from us.

    I been waiting for the tg bungah to bt ferringgi paired road for 5 yrs. And every year. Dap politician will repeat the same old saying ‘it will start soon’. Is a hard pill to swallow for penangites. I know. But is necessary to jolt them off their seat. They no saints.
